Louisiana law states that when any licensed or certified childcare provider or their employees has a reasonable cause to believe that a child has suffered physical, sexual, or emotional child abuse, child neglect or child exploitation, he or she must report such incident by telephone to Child Protective Services immediately. This means that the child care staff must report any suspicion of child abuse to CPS, and we may not inform parents when we have suspicions. It is then up to CPS to decide whether or not there is reason to investigate the report. Failure on our part to report any suspicion can result in the loss of our license.
